Carus-Verlag was founded in 1972 with the aim of publishing editions of previously unpublished works of sacred choral music, works out of print or works in older editions which did not conform to the standards of modern editorial practice.
In pursuing its goal of continually expanding the repertoire available to choirs, Carus has become a leading publisher of sacred music worldwide. The catalog contains more than 25.000 editions.
Carus – Urtext
The aim of Carus Urtext editions is to provide a reliable music text, cleansed of the additions of later centuries. The editions are developed according to current musicological standards, taking into account all of the known sources, with the objective of most closely realizing the composer’s intention.
The foreword offers performers important information concerning the work and its genesis as well as suggestions for performance.
A high-quality complete edition with 23 volumes (full scores) in three slip cases is published at the conclusion of the Bach vocal editorial project. The three slip cases contain the complete surviving cantatas, oratorios, passions, motets and masses in modern Urtext editions geared towards historically informed performance practice. Anyone who is involved with Bach’s music will benefit from studying this edition with over 12.500 pages in a reader-friendly format, also suitable for conducting.
Now that the manuscripts of the organ sonatas have resurfaced, it has finally become possible to form an acquaintance with the major part of Giacomo Puccini’s early compositions in Lucca, which until now were known only from anecdotes. The present selection with 12 works sheds light on this segment of his oeuvre, scheduled to appear in a complete single-volume scholarly edition in the Edizione Nazionale delle Opere di Giacomo Puccini (ENOGP, II/2.1).
Beethoven’s "Ode to Joy" in the final movement is very famous. But the choral writing is in fact much more difficult than it looks. Dizzy heights and frequent contrasting tempo changes demand everything from the singers. With carus music, the new choir app, you can follow the music whilst listening to a top-class recording on your smartphone or tablet, and easily practice your own choral part with the help of a coach. Your concert preparation will be easy and efficient to master–and fun!
