Since its founding in 1972, the Wiener Urtext Edition has, with its superbly researched and prepared editions, made a name for itself as a forward-looking publisher of scholarly and informative urtext performing editions.

Appreciated by musicians, educators, scholars and amateurs alike, the Wiener Urtext Edition has a wellestablished reputation of vouching for a reliable urtext, with a catalogue that meanwhile comprises the major works of classical music ranging from the Baroque period to the early 20th century.

The Wiener Urtext Edition is a critical musicological edition for practical use and is distinguished from many other Urtext editions by comprehensive textual information in German and English and partly also in French.

The musical text itself is prepared on the basis of precise examination of all sources by renowned musicologists. Well-known musicians and pedagogues contribute fingerings.

We present at our stand the most recent publications of the Wiener Urtext Edition. The original focus on keyboard music has broadened in the course of time to include literature for winds and strings.

In addition to finding new material to incorporate into its program, the Wiener Urtext Edition accords high priority to the educational idea of introducing young musicians to authentic music-making.

L.v. Beethoven, Piano Sonatas Vol. 3 - New edition with critical report

Volume 3 of the Wiener Urtext complete edition of Beethoven’s 32 piano sonatas contains Op.78, 79, 81a, 90, 101, 106, 109, 110 and 111. This new edition is based on the study of newfound sources and enriched with a critical report that explains the complex set of problems associated with the incomplete sources, in German and English. Editorial decisions are comprehensible and reasonable. This edition is an essential resource for studying this outstanding oeuvre of piano literature.

L.v. Beethoven, Piano Sonata op. 106 - 'Hammerklavier Sonata'

200 years ago in late autumn 1817 Beethoven started his first sketches for one of his most monumental piano sonatas, the Hammerklavier Sonata Op.106. In autumn 2017 Wiener Urtext Edition publishes a newly revised edition of this exceptional work. The situation regarding the incomplete source material has been re-evaluated and an explanation can be found in the preface as well as in the critical review.

F. Chopin, The Complete Polonaises

The polonaises are regarded as one of the most important genres in the
compositional oeuvre of Frédéric Chopin. Their spectrum ranges from early workswhich can even be played by advanced beginners (e.g. Polonaise in B
flat major) to demanding concert literature.
The new edition of Wiener Urtext Edition is based on all relevant sources: autographs, copyist‘s copies, engraver‘s copies, first editions, as well as copies of Chopin‘s pupils used in their lessons.
